Ranbir Singh has been appointed as Amicus Curiae and he has been directed to assist us in disposal of the matter. This criminal appeal has been filed under Section 19 of the Contempt of Courts Act. The appeal was filed in the year 1990 and challenge was made to an order passed by the Contempt of Courts Act, punishing the appellant with imprisonment for a period of three months and fine of Rs. 2000/-.
The records indicate that fine amount was deposited by the appellant and while admitting the appeal on 22.10.1990, the execution of the punishment was stayed.

APP (DB) No.423 of 1990 dt.16-09-2017 2/2 With the passage of time, now no useful purpose would be served by proceeding with the matter as the contempt proceeding has outlived its utility and the appellant having already suffered the consequences of the proceedings, we accept the unconditional apology which was tendered by the appellant in the Court below, allow this appeal, quash the order dated 03.09.1990 passed by a coordinate Bench of this Court in Criminal Miscellaneous Case No. 23 of 1989.
With the aforesaid, the appeal stands allowed and disposed of.
