However, learned counsel for the petitioner points out that the petitioner was retrenched on 3.9.1997 and the cheque for the amount was issued on 8.4.2017 and as there is an inordinate delay in settlement of the claim, the petitioner is entitled for interest. In these proceedings, in absence of there being any specific direction for payment of interest, it is not appropriate for this Court exercising jurisdiction in the contempt proceedings to grant interest to the petitioner.

Having heard learned counsel for the parties at length and considering the fact that the retrenchment dues have been paid to

Patna High Court MJC No.966 of 2000 dt.21-06-2017 2/2 the petitioner, as is evident from para 4 of the reply filed, for the present, in these proceedings, no further action is required to be taken.

In case the petitioner feels that for the inordinate delay in settling his claim the petitioner is entitled for interest, liberty is available to the petitioner to claim the same afresh in accordance with law.
