1. The present writ petition has been filed seeking the following relief(s):- "1. That this is an application for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus or any other writ/rule/direction commanding the respondent authorities to renew the gun licence no. 81/1986 of one DBBL Gun No. DB8334 of 12 Bore, which was valid upto 31.12.1999, for which petitioner filed on application for renewal of licence on 01.09.2011 (Annexure P/2), on which the District Arm Magistrate by letter no. 7-17/11-2704 dated 10.10.2011. directed the S.H.O., Bihta P.S. to submit the character certificate but no action in this

Patna High Court CWJC No.6794 of 2024(2) dt.11-07-2024 2/3 regard was taken and hence the petitioner again filed application form in Form A-3, for renewal of Arms license as provided in Rule 24 on 28.01.2022, duly depositing an amount of Rs. 2500/- for renewal fee on 20.12.2021. But even thereafter his arm license has not been renewed by the respondent authorities for the reasons best known to them."

2. At the outset, the learned counsel for the petitioner seeks a direction upon the District Magistrate, Patna to dispose off the pending application of the petitioner for renewal of arms license.

3. Per contra, the learned counsel for the respondentState submits that in case the aforesaid application filed by the petitioner is still pending, the same shall be disposed off, within a stipulated time frame, as is fixed by this Hon'ble Court.

4. Having regard to the facts and circumstances of the case, I deem it fit and proper to direct the District Magistrate, Patna to dispose off the application, filed by the petitioner for renewal of arms license, in case the same has been filed and is still pending, by passing a reasoned and a speaking order, in accordance with law, within a period of six weeks of receipt/production of a copy of this order.
