The reasons for non-selection of the petitioner has been explained in paragraph 5 of the counter affidavit filed on behalf of the respondent-Union in which it is stated that the petitioner secured 39 marks in the written examination which was below the marks of the last candidate selected in the general category. In view of the explanation so given no cause for indulgence is made.

The writ petition is dismissed.
