2. The application preferred by the petitioner who is the wife of the deceased employee who died in harness was processed and her claim was recommended.

3. It may be noted that the husband of the petitioner died on 07.09.2014 and shortly thereafter, the petitioner had applied for being considered for compassionate appointment.

4. Till date, despite the recommendation of the candidature of the petitioner for compassionate appointment, no decision has yet been taken.

5. This Court therefore deems it appropriate to direct the petitioner to make a representation before the District Magistrate, Jamui (respondent no. 2) within a period of two weeks, who, on receipt of such representation shall have the claim of the petitioner placed before the District Compassionate Appointment Committee and a decision shall be taken by the aforesaid Committee within a reasonable period of time preferably within a period of eight weeks of the receipt of such representation.

6. If the claim of the petitioner is found to be tenable and in consonance with the scheme for compassionate appointment in the department, necessary sequel order shall also be passed within the aforesaid period. The aforesaid timeline has been prescribed by this Court keeping in mind that compassionate appointment is for the purposes of providing relief and succour to a family

The whole purpose of providing compassionate appointment which is not a regular mode of appointment is to alleviate the family in distress and the purpose stands defeated if there is any unnecessary delay in executing such scheme.

7. With the aforesaid direction/observation, the writ petition is disposed of.
