JUSTICE PRABHAT KUMAR JHA ORAL ORDER 11-09-2015 Heard Sri Bashishtha Narayan Mishra, learned counsel for the petitioner, and Mr. Akhilsehwar Prasad Singh, learned Senior Counsel for the Economic Offence Unit. The petitioner seeks bail in a case under Section 406, 135(1) a & b of the Customs Act.

The custom authority intercepted the petitioner and recovered Rs. 3,38,000/- fake Indian currency notes of Rs. 1000/- and Rs. 500/- denominations. Section 135 of the Customs Act has already been amended and the quantum of punishment for import of fake currency notes has been enhanced up to seven years. Import of fake currency notes is made with a view to crippling the economy of the country.

Having considered the facts aforesaid, I am not

Patna High Court Cr.Misc. No.21997 of 2015 (3) dt.11-09-2015 2/2 inclined to enlarge the petitioner on bail in D.R.I. Case No. 1 of 2014. Accordingly, the same is rejected.

The trial court is directed to expedite the trial holding the same on day-to-day basis and conclude the same within six months from the date of receipt / production of a copy of this order The Assistant Collector (Custom), Muzaffarpur is directed to ensure the attendance of the witnesses so that the trial must be concluded within six months.
