1. This PIL (Public Interest Litigation) was registered on the basis of newspaper report highlighting the issue of delay in preparation and issuance of postmortem reports by the CIMS (Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences), Bilaspur.

2. Cognizance of the facts mentioned in the newspaper reports was taken and a report was summoned from the Secretary to the Government of Chhattisgarh, Department of Health and other authorities. This was done before registration of PIL.

3. After issuance of notice in this PIL, status report has been filed stating that as on the date of status report i.e. 3-6-2020 only two postmortem reports are pending and twelve reports which are already completed but have not been received were also informed to the Police Department for collecting the same and thus all postmortems conducted by the CIMS have already been finalised and reports have been prepared.

4. Shri S.C. Verma, learned Advocate General informs that he had sought instructions from the Head of Forensic Department of

CIMS, Bilaspur, yesterday and as per the information all postmortem reports have been prepared and information has been sent to the Police Department for collecting the same.

5. In view of foregoing, we deem it appropriate to dispose of the PIL, however, at the same time, it is directed that the CIMS, Bilaspur, shall always maintain promptitude in preparation of postmortem reports and sending the same to the concerned police at the earliest.

6. With the aforesaid observations and directions, the PIL stands disposed of.
