1. The relief sought for by the petitioner is for an appropriate direction to the respondents to consider his claim for holding of a DPC for filling up of the post of Joint Director at the earliest.

2. During the course of hearing, it has been reflected that the post of Joint Director has recently fallen vacant and it is only thereafter that the respondents would require taking appropriate steps for filling up of that post by way of a promotion. The petitioner has already made a representation to the department in this regard.

3. Given these facts, the present writ petition at this juncture need not be kept pending and the same can be disposed of directing the respondent-

authorities to take appropriate steps both in deciding the representation of the petitioner on its own merits and also to take necessary steps for filling up of the vacant post to be filled up by way of promotion in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the field at the earliest.
