This is a writ petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India seeking the following prayers:- "i) issue any appropriate writ, order or direction directing Respondent No.1 (CBSE) to correct the Petitioner no. 1 subject from Mathematics (Subject Code: 041) to Information Practices (Subject Code: 065) for the CBSE Class XII Examination 2026;

ii) issue any appropriate writ, order or direction directing Respondent No.1 (CBSE) to correct the Petitioner no. 2 and 3 The authenticity of the order can be re-verified from Delhi High Court Order Portal by scanning the QR code shown above.

iii) issue any appropriate writ, order or direction directing Respondent No.1 (CBSE) to issue admit card of petitioners after correcting their subjects in order to allow them to appear in CBSE Class XII Examination 2026;

iv) issue any appropriate writ, order or direction directing Respondents to allow petitioner no. 1 to appear practical/ internal examination of Information Practices (Subject Code:

065) and petitioner no. 2 and 3 to appear practical/ internal examination of Mathematics (Subject Code: 041);..." 2.

It is the case of the petitioner, that the petitioner No.1 studied Information Practices ("IP") (Subject Code: 065) in Class XI and XII. But in the CBSE record, it is stated that the petitioner has the subject of Mathematics (Subject Code: 041). Similarly, petitioner Nos. 2 and 3 studied Mathematics (Subject Code: 041) but are shown to be students of Biology (Subject Code: 044) for Class XII examination. 3.

Mr. Utkarsh, learned counsel for the petitioners, states that it is not a case, where the petitioners have studied Mathematics and Biology in Class-XI and are seeking change of subject in Class-XII. The subjects namely Mathematics and Biology as shown in Class XII examination is due to human/ clerical mistakes.

For the said reasons, issue notice.

view of the urgency of the matter, the present petition is being taken up for hearing.

Ms. Dolo, learned counsel for the respondent No.1 states that adequate timeframe was granted to the school as well as the students to correct the subject and doing the same now, would be a cumbersome exercise.

Further, she states that the petitioners are approaching this Court in the month of February, 2026 when the Board Exams are round the corner and are to start from 18.02.2026 and the question papers have already been dispatched. Hence, it will require a herculean effort on the part of the CBSE/ respondent No. 1 to accommodate the petitioners at this stage.

I have heard the learned counsels for the parties and perused the record.

10. I am of the view that the academic careers of the petitioners are at stake and the petitioners, for no fault of theirs, have been shown as students of wrong subjects, in the official records of respondent No. 1.

11. Even though they have pursued IP and Mathematics in their Class XI and XII, the CBSE record now shows the subjects of Mathematics for petitioner No. 1 and Biology for petitioner Nos. 2 and 3 respectively.

12. In view of the above, the petition is disposed of issuing the Writ of Mandamus to the respondent No.1 to correct the mistake and record the petitioner No.1 as student of IP and petitioner Nos. 2 and 3 as students of Mathematics.

13. The above directions are issued as an exceptional measure.
