By way of the present petition, it is sought by the petitioner that the petitioner be exempted from depositing his licensed arm/weapon in the concerned Police Station during the ongoing election process in terms of the notice dated 23.01.2025 (filed as Annexure P-3 to the present petition). 2.
Learned counsel for the respondent no.1/Election Commission of India (ECI) points out that elaborate guidelines are in place for the purpose of screening and assessing the cases where it is essential to deposit the licensed arms. terms of the relevant guidelines issued by the ECI. 3.
After some hearing, the present petition is disposed of with the directions that the petitioner's application seeking exemption from depositing his licensed arm/weapon be considered by the concerned Screening Committee within a period of 24 hours from today. 4.
In case the exemption is granted to the petitioner, let the requisite intimation be sent by the Screening Committee forthwith to the concerned Police Commissionerate/Police Station.
