The petitioners claim to have solemnized their marriage on 22.01.2026, and apprehend threats from their families and associates, who have been impleaded as respondent Nos. 4 to 6. They have therefore filed this petition under Article 226 of the Constitution, seeking a direction upon the concerned police station to provide them with adequate security.

As per the Aadhar cards of the petitioners, which have been placed on record, the date of birth of petitioner No. 1 is 22.09.1988, and the date of birth of petitioner No. 2 is 12.05.2000. They have thus both attained majority.

Surprisingly, although the parties both profess Islam, their request to the SHO of the concerned police station [respondent No. 3], and the averments in the writ petition also state that they have married each other according to Hindu rites and rituals, at Arya Samaj Mandir, Model Town, Ghaziabad. During the course of hearing, Mr. Akshit Tomar, learned counsel for the petitioners, submits that this was a "clerical mistake", and they in fact underwent a Nikkah ceremony, in accordance with the applicable personal law. A copy of the marriage certificate dated 22.01.2026, showing the above, is handed up in Court, and is taken on record.

As the petitioners are both adults, regardless of their marital status, they are entitled to protection from any apprehended threats from members of their family or their associates.

Ms. Bandhopadhya states that the telephone number of the concerned SHO, and beat constable will be provided to the petitioners so that they may contact them in the event of any exigency. 7.

As no further relief is sought in the petition, the petition is disposed of with the above direction.
