CORAM:

HON'BLE MR. JUSTICE NAJMI WAZIRI

O R D E R

% 21.01.2019 The petitioner seeks inquiry into the embezzlement of compensation of Rs.5 lacs, which is due to be paid to the family/legal heirs of the deceased Ms. Reema, daughter of Mr. Durjan Singh, in a fire at Bawana on 20.01.2018 in which lives of 17 innocent persons had perished. It is stated that compensation has been announced and given by the Government of NCT of Delhi apropos all victims of the tragedy, except to the family of Ms. Reema. It is stated that Rs.5 lacs was erroneously given to the family of another person who had died the same day, not in the fire tragedy, but due to heart attack at a different place. Accordingly, recovery proceedings have been initiated against the wrongful receipient. Nevertheless, Mr. Avi Singh, the learned counsel for the State submits

that the State is seized of the matter and that the compensation has been directed to be paid to the family/LRs of the victim. It is expected that the said monies would be released to them in the next fortnight. It would be open to the State to initiate proceedings, as may be, against the persons involved in the wrongful payment and acceptance by others persons. No further orders are required at this stage. The petition is disposed off in the above terms. A copy of this order be given dasti to the parties, under the signature of the Court Master.
