The petitioner has filed the present petition, inter alia, praying that directions be issued to the respondent to release the petitioner on parole for a period of one month. The petitioner was released on furlough for a period of two weeks by an order dated 24.12.2019 passed by the competent authority (Director General of Prisons).

The petitioner had sought furlough to attend to his mother, who is suffering from a serious psychiatric disease. The petitioner states that his mother's condition is now stable, however, her doctor had advised her to come along with her attendant. The petitioner states that he had taken his mother to IHBAS for treatment and on 13.01.2020, the doctors referred his

mother to neurology department and had further asked her to visit again for treatment on 20.01.2020.

The petitioner's term of furlough expires on 18.01.2020. It is in this background that the petitioner seeks parole for a period of four weeks.

The nominal roll has been filed, which indicates that the petitioner has already served actual custody of thirteen years five months and twenty-two days as on 15.05.2019. During that period, he has also earned remission of four years and seven days. The conduct of the petitioner has been reported as 'satisfactory'.

In view of the above, this Court considers it apposite to allow the present petition.

Accordingly, the petitioner is directed to be released on parole for a period of four weeks from 18.01.2020 on the terms and conditions as set out in the order dated 24.12.2019, whereby the petitioner was released on furlough.
