The petitioner has filed the present petition, inter alia, praying that directions be issued to the respondents to issue a fresh passport in favour of the petitioner by incorporating the necessary correction in the name of the petitioner's father.

The petitioner had applied for a passport in the year 2002 indicating the name of her father as Mr Charan Singh instead of Mr Jagat Singh. Accordingly, the passport was issued indicating the petitioner's father name as Mr Charan Singh.

The petitioner states that immediately on receipt of the passport, she realised the error and filed a letter dated 06.11.2003 requesting the respondent no.2 to correct the error that had crept in the passport. The petitioner asserts that the said letter was received by the respondents on 10.11.2003.

Thereafter, the petitioner claims that she approached the passport authorities but was informed that the necessary correction would be carried out only at the time of renewal of the passport. 4.

The petitioner applied for renewal of the passport sometime in the year 2015. However, the new passport issued to her also incorrectly records the name of her father as Mr Charan Singh.

The petitioner claims that she had approached the respondent authorities on the number of occasions but the error has not been corrected as yet.

Mr Mahajan, learned counsel appearing for the respondent states that if the petitioner furnishes an affidavit and complies with the formalities, the necessary correction would be carried out.

In this view, no orders are required to be passed except to direct the respondents to provide the format of the affidavit required to be submitted by the petitioner and other formalities to be completed by her within a period of four weeks. It is so directed.

On the petitioner complying with the formalities so indicated, the respondents shall issue a fresh passport incorporating the name of the petitioner's father as directed.

It is clarified that the documents required by the petitioner cannot in any case include the 10th class school certificate as the petitioner is more than 80 years old and it is doubtful that the 10th class school certificate was issued at the material time or is otherwise available with her. 9.

The petition is disposed of.
