Accordingly, the application stands disposed of. W.P.(CRL) 639/2025 4.
The Petitioner is a convict in case arising from FIR No. 887 of 2006 registered at P.S. Punjabi Bagh, Delhi. Pursuant to his conviction, the Petitioner has been in custody for the last 23 years. Through the present petition, the Petitioner seeks extension of the first spell of furlough granted to him by the DG (Prisons) Tihar Central Jail, on the grounds that his request for The authenticity of the order can be re-verified from Delhi High Court Order Portal by scanning the QR code shown above.
remission of premature release is pending before the Sentence Review Board1, and that he is presently undergoing treatment at Max Hospital for chest pain. 5.
Before addressing the extension of furlough, it must be noted that previously, the Petitioner had filed a writ petition being W.P.(Crl.) 20/2024, before this Court seeking directions for premature release. The said petition was disposed of vide order dated 4th January, 2024, directing the SRB to consider the petition as a representation and render a decision on the same within three months.
6.
Aggrieved by this decision, the Petitioner challenged the said order dated 4th January, 2024 before the Supreme Court in SLP (Crl.) 937 of 2024 (converted into Criminal Appeal No. 81/2025). In the meantime, in its meeting dated 23rd February, 2025, the case of the Petitioner for premature release was considered and rejected by the SRB. 7.
Noting this development as well as the fact that the co-accused of the Petitioner had already been granted premature release by the SRB, the Supreme Court disposed of the Crl. A. 81/2025 with a direction to the SRB to take a fresh decision on the representation of the Petitioner within a maximum period of three months from the date of the order. This period of three months is set to expire soon. Counsel for the Petitioner is hopeful that the decision would be in the Petitioner's favour.
8.
Be that as it may, the issue in the present petition pertains to extension of the first spell of furlough granted to the Petitioner by the DG (Prisons) on 6th February, 2025, for a period of three weeks, expiring on 28th February, 2025. In this regard, the Petitioner states that presently he is under treatment 1 "SRB"

at Max Hospital for chest pain and as such, furlough be extended by one week. Counsel for the Petitioner states on instructions, that this extension period can be adjusted against the Petitioner's second spell of furlough. 9.
In light of the above, the present petition is disposed with a direction that the furlough granted to the Petitioner vide order dated 06th February, 2025 is extended by a period of one week commencing from 28th February, 2025. This period, as agreed by the Petitioner, shall be adjusted against the second spell of furlough.
