A petition under Section 29-A of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 has been filed on behalf of the petitioner for extension of mandate of the learned Arbitrator by 18 months to which learned counsel for the respondent has no objection.

In the present case the record shows that the dispute inter-se the parties arose in November, 2016. The Claimant file the Statement of Claim before the learned Arbitrator on 11.11.2016 and thereafter the matter has continued with the checkered history.

Eventually, vide Order dated 24.11.2020 the Apex Court had appointed the present learned Arbitrator and since then the proceedings are ongoing before the learned Arbitrator which is at the initial stage. The mandate of the learned Arbitrator has expired on 31.12.2023.

Considering the long period since when the arbitration is pending, the extension is granted by nine months from the date of its expiry i.e. 31.12.2023, with the request to the parties to expedite the proceedings. 4.
