The instant petition is for the following reliefs:- "a) Issue a writ of Mandamus directing the Respondent no. 2 to cancel/surrender the second PAN No. DDIPS3897B and retain only valid PAN No. BYCPS8504C;

b) Direct the Respondents to update their records and confirm cancellation to the Petitioner;

c) pass any such further order(s) or direction(s) as this Hon'ble Court may, in the facts and circumstances of the present case, deem fit and proper in favour of the petitioner and against the respondents." 2.

The petitioner claims to be the holder of the Permanent Account Number („PAN‟) BYCPS8504C, which is used by him for all financial and taxation purposes. He claims that in the year 2012, he was surprised to find that another PAN bearing number DDIPS3897B ("Second Pan") issued in his name. The petitioner seems to have made representation in the year 2012. Thereafter, the petitioner has not taken any steps. 3.

Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that some representations were made and reply was also received. However, there is nothing on record to justify the said submission.

Having considered the overall facts and circumstances, the Court finds that the petitioner should make a fresh representation before the competent authority of the Income Tax Department. 5.

If the petitioner makes such a representation before the concerned authority, let the same be considered in accordance with law and appropriate order be passed within a period of four months from the date of receipt of the petitioner‟s representation.

With the aforesaid observations, the instant petition stands disposed of.
