The present writ petition has been filed seeking a direction to respondent-BSES Yamuna Power Limited ('BYPL'), to grant an electricity connection to the petitioner at the Third Floor of the property bearing no. 11A/120, T. Camp, Trilok Puri, Delhi- 110091 ('subject property'). 2.

Counsel appearing on behalf of the respondent submits that in a similar petition relating to the Ground Floor of the subject property, being W.P. (C) 2810/2026, titled Pawan Kumar v. Govt of NCT of Delhi & Anr. , vide order dated 27th February, 2026, this Court had passed directions to respondent no. 2, to grant electricity connection to the petitioner therein. 3.

The relevant extracts from the said order are set out below: "4.

Counsel appears on behalf of the respondent no.2 and submits that electricity connection has not been granted on account of communication received by the respondent no.2 from one Mohd. Shahid Malik who claims ownership over the said property.

It is a settled legal position that mere grant of electricity connection would not confirm any ownership status of a party. It has also been observed by this Court that in a number of cases involving disputes between co-owners and neighbours, the parties try and block grant of electricity connection to the party with whom they have dispute. 6.

Therefore, in opinion of this Court, merely because a party is claiming ownership as per the written communication sent to the respondent no.2, it cannot be the basis to deny grant of electricity connection in favour of the petitioner. Grant of electricity connection is a basic right which cannot be denied to a party except in accordance with law.

In view thereof, the present writ petition is disposed of while directing the respondent no.2 to grant electricity connection to the petitioner as per its rules and regulations, subject to the petitioner complying with the prescribed formalities."

In the present case also, the electricity connection has not been granted to the petitioner on account of the objection raised by the same, Mr. Mohd. Shahid, who claims to be the owner of the subject property. 5.

Accordingly, following the directions passed in the aforesaid writ petition, W.P. (C) 2810/2026, a direction is issued to respondent no. 2 to grant electricity connection to the petitioner as per relevant rules and regulations, subject to the petitioner complying with the prescribed formalities. 6.
