Issue notice. The learned counsel appearing for the respondents accepts notice.

The petitioner has filed the present petition, inter alia, praying that directions be issued to respondent no. 1 to issue a passport to the petitioner pursuant to his application dated 26.02.2019, bearing reference no.190002707510 and bar code number DL3073409522819. It is the petitioner's case that his application has not been processed on account of certain noting in the record of the passport authorities marked as a CBI alert.

The petitioner states that there was a criminal case registered against him from which he was acquitted in the year 2000. Even prior to

that, the petitioner had been granted passport facilities on specific orders granted from the concerned court, from time to time. He submits that there is now no impediment or requirement for the petitioner to obtain any specific clarification.

Plainly, if the averments made in the present petition are correct, passport facilities cannot be denied to the petitioner. Accordingly, respondent no. 1 is directed to process the petitioner's application for issuance of passport within a period of four weeks from today in accordance with law. In the event respondent no.1 is of the view that the passport facilities cannot be extended to the petitioner, respondent no.1 shall pass a speaking order and communicate the same to the petitioner within the aforesaid period of four weeks.

Needless to state that if the petitioner is aggrieved, he is at liberty to apply afresh.

The petition is disposed of in the aforesaid terms. The pending applications also stand disposed of.
