The present petition has been filed by the Petitioner- Chetna Pal under Article 226 of the Constitution of India inter alia seeking release of the goods detained by the Customs Department vide Detention Receipt No. 3880 dated 25th February 2024 (New Detention Receipt No. 52904 dated 27th February 2024).

The case of the Petitioner is that she is a 24 year old girl who was travelling from Bangkok to India with a gold chain weighing 100 grams and two kadas weighing 160 grams. The same were detained on 25th February, 2024. The appraisement of the goods has also been done by the Customs Department on 27th February 2024.

According to the Petitioner, she was wearing the said jewellery at the time when the same was detained.

jewellery was purchased in Bangkok by the Petitioner, the customs duty shall be liable to be paid by the Petitioner to the Respondent. 6.

It is the admitted position that no show cause notice has been issued. In view of the fact that no show cause notice has been issued till date and the said goods are her personal effects, the goods of the Petitioner are liable to be released.

Let the customs duty be computed and communicated to the Petitioner within four weeks. The contact details of the Petitioner are as under: Name :
