W.P.(C) 3932/2019 & C.M. No. 17821/2019 The petitioner assails the order dated 24.08.2018 passed by the Central Administrative Tribunal, Principal Bench, New Delhi (the Tribunal) in O.A No. 1355/2018. The Tribunal has rejected the petitioner's prayer for compassionate appointment. The petitioner's father died in harness in the year 2011. He moved an application for appointment on compassionate grounds and his application was rejected after examining his comparative merit to the other candidates in the year 2014. He preferred the aforesaid original application in the year 2018. In the meantime, he had also preferred

an original application in the year 2016.

It has been 8 years since the demise of the petitioner's father. It is well settled that compassionate appointment is not a regular source of recruitment. Compassionate appointment is given to the bereaved family of the deceased to tide over the financial trauma that the family may suffer on account of the demise of the government servant. In a case like the present, where the death of the petitioner's father took place on 20.04.2011, it cannot be said that the grave urgency for compassionate appointment now survives. We also notice that the petitioner's father died quite close to his date of superannuation i.e. 31.07.2012. His father had served practically the full tenure of his service.

In these circumstances, we find absolutely no merit in this petition. Dismissed.
