Issue notice. The learned counsel appearing for the respondents accept notice.

The petitioner has filed the present petition, inter alia, praying that respondent no.2 (DRI) be directed to review the decision taken by the Reward Committee to award a sum of ₹19 lacs to the petitioner and to re-examine the petitioner's case in accordance with the guidelines for Grant of Reward to Informant and Government Servants, (hereafter "the relevant Guidelines").

It is the petitioner's case that the recovery of custom duty is based on the reward to the extent of ₹11.42 crores and the grant of an award of only ₹19 lacs [under a certificate bearing no. DRI/HQ-CI/50D/lNT-23/2016-CI(PT.) dated 17.04.2018] is wholly inadequate and contrary to the relevant guidelines.

The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner further submits that the petitioner would be satisfied, if the matter is remanded to respondent no.2 to ensure that the decision regarding the quantum of the award is in conformity with the relevant guidelines.

In view of the above, the petition is disposed of by directing respondent no.2 to re-examine the reward granted to the petitioner as expeditiously as possible. Respondent no.2 shall consider the present petition as a representation on behalf of the petitioner and communicate its decision to the petitioner. The applications are also disposed of. 5.
