Petition under Section 29A of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, has been filed on behalf of the Petitioner for extension of the period for making an Award by six months from 16.06.2026 to 16.12.2026. 2.

The record shows that Notice of Arbitration was given on 07.02.2020 and the Arbitrator was appointed on 20.10.2020. Since then the matter is pending and extensions are being taken from 22.08.2023 by both the parites. Thereafter, ten extensions have been taken under Section 29A. This kind of conduct is purely self-defeating and is against the objective of the Arbitration Act, which is intended for expeditious disposal of the Suit. However, both the parties ensure that the matter is at the stage of arguments being addressed by the Respondent and that they will not seek any further extension in the matter.

The extension is granted for six weeks w.e.f. 16.06.2026 to 16.12.2026. The parties shall make an endeavor to conclude the matter and as assured, they may not approach the Court seeking further extension.
