O R D E R

% 02.07.2019 This public interest litigation has been preferred by the petitioner for the following prayers:

"a) Allow this writ petition and issue a writ of mandamus or any other appropriate writ, order or direction, for giving directions to the respondents for setting up uniform and updated guidelines and rules for appropriate training of new recruits to the Delhi Police Force and as well as to adequately train the existing Delhi Police personnel with the prevalent conditions in Delhi; and b) By way of issuance for an appropriate writ, order or direction, direct the respondents to train the Delhi Police in weapon and armory training and some police battalions at par with Para-Military training including classification fire; and

c) By way of issuance of an appropriate writ, order or direction, direct the respondents to increase the sanctioned strength of Delhi Police personnel and hire additional recruitments in consonance with the demand of increasing population and crime rate of Delhi; and/or d) By way of issuance of an appropriate writ, order or direction, direct the respondents to implement and to prohibit carrying of arms/swords which are expressly prohibited as per the Arms Act; and e) By way of issuance of an appropriate writ, order or direction, direct the respondents for strengthening the local intelligence units of the Delhi Police; and f) Pass any other order which this Hon'ble Court may deem fit in the interest of justice."

Having heard the learned counsel for petitioner and the learned counsel for respondents and looking to the facts and circumstances of the case it appears that the respondents are already having a training module for the police. They are giving adequate training to the police and having a police training college. There is an induction and advance training and skill enhancement training and periodically they are giving training to the police for the weapons etc. Hence, we see no reason to give further directions as to how to train the police.

It is left to the respondents to train the police. Suffice it to say that adequate and appropriate training shall be imparted to the police personnel which is required looking to the incidents taking place in the society. So far as strength of the police is concerned, it is expected from the respondents that adequate strength of the police would be maintained by the respondents.
