The present writ petition is filed by the petitioners seeking direction to Respondent No.1 to grant protection to the petitioners from Respondent No.2.

It is the case of the petitioners that they belong to different religions and got married to each other, despite the opposition from Respondent no.2, who is the elder brother of Petitioner No.1.

It is stated that the marriage between petitioners has not been approved by Respondent No.2 and he is constantly threatening Petitioner No.1. Undisputedly, if Petitioner No.1 has attained the age of majority, she can wilfully cohabit with and marry a person of her choice. No third person, including Respondent No.2, can threaten Petitioner No.1 for having married out of her own will. 7.

However, at this stage, the present petition seems to be pre-emptive in nature and borne out of the petitioners' apprehension of threat to their life.

The police authorities are duty bound to protect life and liberty of every citizen. Also, the police is duty bound to take action in a complaint making allegation of any cognizable offence.

At this stage, the only allegation made is that the petitioners are receiving threats. The nature of the threats has not been clearly indicated in the petition.

The learned ASC for the State fairly states that if any complaint is made by the petitioners, the same will be dealt with in accordance with law 11.

He further submits that the phone number of the Beat Officer has already been provided to the petitioners and they are at liberty to call the Beat Officer as and when they apprehend any threat to their life and appropriate action will be taken in that regard. He also states that the Beat Officer will also be sensitized of the nature of the petition.

In view of the above, no further orders are required to be passed in the present petition at this stage. 13.

The writ petition stands disposed of.
