These is a petition filed under Section 29A of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 seeking extension of 6 months of the mandate of the arbitral tribunal to conclude the arbitration proceedings. 5.
For the said reasons, issue notice.

Mr. Avinash Menon, learned counsel accepts notice on behalf of the respondent and stated that there is a realistic possibility of the matter being settled.

Since the mandate of the earlier appointed arbitrator had expired and there was Covid-19 pandemic period in between, I am satisfied that there are sufficient reasons for the arbitration proceedings not having been concluded in time.

For the said reasons, the petition is allowed and the period of 9 months is given to the arbitral tribunal to conclude the arbitration proceedings and make and publish the award.

The Arbitral Tribunal is also requested to look into the request of the respondent to see if a viable and amicable settlement can be arrived at between the parties.

The petition is disposed of.
