Letter dated 15th February, 2022 had been written by Mr. Amit Sahni seeking premature release of old aged and infirm prisoners in terms of All India Committee on Jail Reforms (Mulla Committee) and Modern Prison Manual, 2003. Vide Minutes of the Meeting of the PIL Committee held on 24th August, 2022, the said letter was directed to be treated as a PIL. 2.

The respondents have filed gazette notification dated 29th January, 2024 - The Delhi Prison (Amendment) Rules of 2024, whereby Rule 1246A has been inserted in Delhi Prison Rules, 2018 regarding release of incapacitated convicts.

In view of the aforesaid gazette notification, the present petition is closed.
