The petitioners have filed the present petition, inter alia, praying that directions be issued to respondent nos. 1 and 2 to provide them protection from the harassment and torture at the hands of respondent nos. 3 to 5. 2.

The petitioners claim that they are majors and have attained the age of majority and they have since married. The petitioners claim that they are from different castes and, therefore, their marriage has been opposed by the family members of petitioner no.1 (respondent nos. 3 to 5). It is claimed that the respondent no.3 is the brother of petitioner no.1 and that he and other family members of petitioner no.1 have also threatened to kill petitioner no.1.

Mr Lao, learned ASC appearing for the State states that efforts were made to verify the address provided by the petitioners. It was found that the

petitioners are not residing at the address, as stated in the memo of parties. He states that they were contacted telephonically and it was found that they were in Ghaziabad. Nonetheless, the concerned SHO has provided them the telephone number of the Beat Constable, as well as the telephone number of a responsible police official and the petitioners are free to contact the concerned officials in case of any imminent threat. 4.

The petitioners have also prayed that FIR, if any, which may be registered by respondent nos. 3 to 5, be quashed. Clearly, no such order can be passed. An FIR can be quashed if the details of the same are brought before this Court.

Insofar as granting protection to the petitioners is concerned, the petitioners are at liberty to approach respondent no.2. Respondent no.2 is required to make such inquiries, as necessary, and provide such protection as he considers appropriate within the jurisdiction of P.S. Jamia Nagar. 6.

No further orders are required to be passed in this petition. The same is disposed of.
