On 18th July, 2025, the Court passed the following order: "2. Petitioners seek protection of their life and limb from father of petitioner no. 1. It is submitted on behalf of petitioners that petitioner no. 1, a non-muslim girl converted to Islam and got married to petitioner no. 2, muslim by religion and because of this, petitioners apprehend threat to their life and limb at the hands of father of petitioner no. 1. Both petitioners are present in Court and it is submitted by them that no formal ritual of conversion was performed, though they undertook Nikah ceremony before Qazi, who issued the certificate [Annexure-B].

3. Without entering into the validity of the religious conversion and marriage between the petitioners, life and limb of petitioners is of the paramount importance. Both petitioners are major in age and cannot be denied right to live together.

4. Learned ASC accepts notice and assures that best possible steps shall be taken to protect the life and limb of the petitioners.

5. Subject to petitioners taking steps within one week, notice through all modes be also issued to the respondent no. 2 returnable on 13.08.2025.

6. The petitioners are residents of Ghaziabad but currently they are residing in Seelampur area. SHO Seelampur shall ensure complete protection to the life and limb of petitioners till further orders. On 13th August, 2025, there was no appearance on behalf of the Petitioners. The position remains the same even today. 3.

Respondent No. 2, father of Petitioner No. 1 is represented by Mr. Sunil Kumar Advocate, who submits that the marriage between the Petitioners is contrary to the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021. At the same time, on instructions, counsel states that Respondent No. 2 and the other family members shall not extend any unlawful threat to, or cause any harm to, either of the Petitioners. 4.

As already clarified in the order dated 18th July, 2025, this Court has not examined, and is not adjudicating upon, the validity of the alleged religious conversion or the marriage between the Petitioners. The fact remains that both individuals are majors of legally marriageable age and cannot be denied the right to live together.

In view of the undertaking given by Respondent No. 2, and bearing in mind that the State has already complied with the directions issued on 18th July, 2025, as confirmed by Mr. Anand V. Khatri, ASC for the State, the present petition is disposed of with a direction that the State shall continue to provide adequate protection to the Petitioners, as and when required, so as to safeguard their life and dignity.

All rights and contentions of the parties, including those relating to the validity of the conversion and marriage, are left open.
