CRL.M.C. 6232/2025 3.

By way of instant petition, the petitioners seek quashing of FIR bearing no. 291/2015, registered at Police Station Anand Parbat, Central District, Delhi for the commission of offence punishable under Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

4.

Issue notice. The learned APP accepts notice on behalf of the State. The authenticity of the order can be re-verified from Delhi High Court Order Portal by scanning the QR code shown above.

5.

The petitioners and respondent no.2 are present before this Court and have been identified by their counsel and Investigating Officer (IO) concerned, Police Station Anand Parbat, Central District, Delhi. 6.

Brief facts of the case are that petitioner no. 1 and respondent no. 2 were in relationship and wanted to get married. It is stated that on 11.05.2014, roka ceremony of petitioner no. 1 and respondent no. 2 was organised and the date of marriage was fixed for 18.01.2015. However, on 01.01.2015, due to some misunderstanding between the parties, the marriage between them was called off. Thereafter, upon the complaint of respondent no. 2, the present FIR came to be registered against the petitioners, whereafter, the chargesheet was filed before the concerned Court under the relevant provisions of law.

7.

It is stated that with intervention of the family members, respective persons from the society and friends, the parties have now amicably settled their dispute before the Delhi Mediation Centre, Tis Hazari Courts, Delhi vide Settlement Deed/Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) dated 31.07.2025.

8.

On a query made by this Court, respondent no. 2 who has been identified by the IO, has categorically stated that she has entered into compromise out of her own free will and without any pressure, coercion or threat. Therefore, she has no objection if the present FIR is quashed. 9.

In view of the above, since the parties have amicably resolved their differences of their own free will, and without any coercion, no useful purpose will be served by continuing the proceedings, rather the same would create further acrimony between them. It would thus be in interest of justice to quash the abovementioned FIR and the proceedings pursuant thereto. The authenticity of the order can be re-verified from Delhi High Court Order Portal by scanning the QR code shown above.

There is no legal impediment in quashing the FIR in question. 10.

Accordingly, FIR bearing No. 291/2015, registered at Police Station Anand Parbat, Central District, Delhi for the commission of offence punishable under Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 and all consequential proceedings emanating therefrom are quashed. 11.

However, it is noted that the matter has been pending for the last 10 years before various Courts. Further, it is evident that the parties have taken their own time to request the Court for the FIR to be quashed. 12.

In these circumstances, since the time of the Court and the investigating agency has been consumed and the petitioners themselves have expressed their willingness to compensate for the time so consumed by contributing for a socially relevant cause.

13.

The petitioners are directed to deposit Rs.10,000/- each with the Advocates' Welfare Fund, Tis Hazari Courts, Delhi. 14.

In view of above, the present petition stands disposed of. 15.

The order be uploaded on the website forthwith. DR. SWARANA KANTA SHARMA, J SEPTEMBER 03, 2025/ns The authenticity of the order can be re-verified from Delhi High Court Order Portal by scanning the QR code shown above.
