By the present petition, the petitioner essentially seeks protection from her parents who are stated to be residents of Uttar Pradesh.

The petitioner claims to have married without the approval of her parents and, consequently apprehends threat to her life and liberty. The petitioner claims that she has been receiving phone calls from different numbers threatening her to come to Uttar Pradesh and join some investigation which the petitioner is not aware of.

Concededly, whether it is the Delhi Police or the Police in Uttar Pradesh, no one is permitted to take law in their own hands and they are required to function in accordance with the law. However, in the event that the Police is investigating some offence in which the petitioner is involved, no pre-emptive orders can be passed in the nature of protection to the petitioner without any details being brought on record.

The learned Standing Counsel for the State, at the outset, submits that in case the petitioner feels any threat to her life and liberty, she is permitted to inform the Beat Officer and as and when any such information is received, prompt action will be taken. He submits that the Beat Officer will also be sensitized in that regard. He submits that the phone number of the Beat Officer will be provided to the petitioner today itself. 6.

Considering the above, no orders are required to be passed at this stage.

Needless to say, the petitioner is at liberty to approach this Court in case any grievance remains in the future. 8.
