This is a petition under Section 29A(4) of the Arbitration & Conciliation Act, 1996 for extending the mandate of the Arbitral Tribunal for a period of nine months, i.e., from 05.09.2024 to 05.06.2025 for making the Award.

Material on record indicates that a Sole Arbitrator was appointed on 19.09.2022 to adjudicate upon the disputes between the parties. The Petitioner has approached this Court for extension of time since the mandate of the Arbitral Tribunal has come to an end on 05.09.2024 and the matter before the learned Arbitrator has been adjourned to 24.10.2024. It is stated that at least nine months' time would be required for the learned Arbitrator to pass an Award.

In the facts and circumstance of this case, this Court is inclined to extend the mandate of the Arbitral Tribunal for a further period of one year so that the Award can be pronounced and no further extension of time would be required.
