Present public interest litigation has been filed seeking directions to the respondents to provide various facilities to the advocates visiting the Tihar Jail premises.

Learned counsel for the petitioner states that petitioner has come across various issues while visiting Tihar Jail premises. He states that many advocates have to wait outside jails in extreme weather conditions for an average time of one to two hours to meet their clients. no arrangement for basic amenities such as clean drinking water, fans, and toilets in all sixteen (16) jails in Tihar Jail. He states that despite several acres of vacant area available with the Jail Complex no parking facilities have been provided for the advocates either inside or outside the jail premises. He also states that there is no conveyance inside the jail premises and the advocates have to travel long distances inside the Jail complex. 3.

He states that despite the petitioner making representations to the Bar Council of Delhi and Bar Council of India, no action has been taken so far. He states that the petitioner has also filed a grievance dated 05th September, 2024 with the Director General of Prisons but has not received any response so far.

Keeping in view the aforesaid, present public interest petition along with the applications is disposed of with a direction to the Director General of Prisons, Tihar Jail, Central Jail to decide the petitioner's representation dated 05th September, 2024 in accordance with law as expeditiously as possible preferably within four weeks. The rights and contentions of all the parties are left open.
