This petition by way of Public Interest Litigation has been filed seeking a direction to the respondents to amend Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 in terms of the directions of the Supreme Court in Animal Welfare Board of India v. A. Nagaraja & Ors.; (2014) 7 SCC 547.

The petitioner, appearing in person, has drawn our attention to Para 91.8 of the judgment of the Supreme Court wherein it is observed: "91.8. Parliament is expected to make proper amendment of the PCA Act to provide an effective deterrent to achieve the object and purpose of the Act and for violation of Section 11, adequate penalties and punishments should be imposed." Petitioner himself states that a Bill has already been drafted for making a new enactment for welfare of animals in which certain provisions have been made providing for penalties and punishment for treating the W.P.(C) No.2158/2017

animals cruelly.

Be that as it may, since no mandamus can be issued for the relief sought by the petitioner, we decline to entertain this petition and the same is accordingly dismissed.
