This writ petition is filed on behalf of the Petitioner under Article 226 of the Constitution of India seeking the following reliefs:- "1. Issue a writ of mandamus or direction commanding the Respondent Nos. 1 and 2 (State Bank of India) to disclose the reasons, authority, and complete set of records regarding the freezing of the Petitioner's Savings Bank Account No. 20043406321 and/or;

ii. Issue appropriate directions to the Respondents to immediately defreeze and restore the Petitioner's Savings Account No. 20043406321 to full operational status."

Mr. Yash Kotak, learned Standing Counsel appearing on advance copy of the petition accepts notice on behalf of Respondent No. 2/SBI and submits that action has been taken pursuant to a judicial order passed by the learned Special Judge/PC Act, CBI West, Lucknow, which was communicated to the Respondent No. 2/Bank vide letter dated 10.11.2025. Copy of the letter is handed over in Court and is taken on record. 4.

From the letter, it emerges that order was passed in connection with a pending criminal matter in Court Case No. 19/2010 titled CBI v. Vinod Kumar Sharma & Ors., RC No. 01/2009 ACU-I, wherein Court has observed that the account holder i.e., the Petitioner, who is a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, CBI, New Delhi is a key witness in the case and has failed to appear before the Court to tender evidence, despite non-bailable warrants issued against him. It is in this background, Court has directed Respondent No. 2/SBI to stop operations of the Savings Bank Account bearing No. 20043406321 till further orders.

In light of this, no order can be passed in the writ petition at this stage, which is accordingly dismissed, with liberty to the Petitioner to take recourse to appropriate remedies.
