The present petition has been filed by the petitioner in the backdrop of the proposal submitted by the petitioner to the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) for instituting 'Sharda Sinha Prize' endowment in the name of his late mother, Ms. Sharda Sinha. The purport thereof was to provide financial assistance to students pursuing Ph.D. from the School of Social Science, JNU in the subject of history of science, history of education and history of media. 2.

For this purpose, the petitioner had expressed his willingness to donate Rs.11,00,000/- to the JNU and the 'Sharda Sinha Prize' would be given out from the interest earned from the said amount, once in every two years to the student whose Ph.D. thesis has been adjudged as the "best" in the aforementioned subjects. The present petition was filed on the grievance raised by the petitioner that despite a lapse of 7 years, no steps have been taken by the JNU to announce a winner for the 'Sharda Sinha Prize'. In the circumstances, the petitioner seeks refund of the principle donation amount of Rs.11,00,000/- alongwith the interest accrued therein. 4.

Learned counsel appearing for JNU fairly submits that the JNU is agreeable to the refund of the said amount alongwith the accrued interest thereon.

In the circumstances, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to the petitioner to approach the Registrar, JNU for refund of the aforesaid amount, whereupon the requisite amount shall be forthwith refunded to the petitioner, and in any event within a period of 6 weeks from the date on which the petitioner submits an application in this regard. 6.
