This public interest litigation has been taken by this Court on suo motu on the basis of a letter written by a citizen bringing to the notice of this Court that CCTV cameras are not working in areas nearby India Gate. 2.
We have heard the learned counsel appearing for respondents No.1 to 3 who has submitted that there are around 4300 CCTV cameras which are installed in the city of Delhi. Whenever any instruments are placed in open they are exposed to light and rain etc. and, therefore, few of them may not be working but constantly the respondents are monitoring those CCTV cameras which are not working and getting it repaired or replaced as and when required. It is submitted by the counsel for the respondents that similar is the position with the electricity bulbs on the road which are also being replaced periodically and there are proper departments for such type of work.
3.
In view of this submission and also looking to the fact that out of W.P.(C) No.7053/2018
several CCTV cameras, 2919 CCTV cameras are already working and if few are not working, we hereby direct the respondents to either get them repaired or replaced. As the respondents are already working on the job, we see no reason to further monitor the work of repairing or replacing of CCTV cameras installed in the city of Delhi.
4.
With these observations, this writ petition is disposed of. CHIEF JUSTICE C.HARI SHANKAR, J AUGUST 07, 2019 'anb'
