CORAM:

HON'BLE MR JUSTICE BADAR DURREZ AHMED HON'BLE MR JUSTICE ASHUTOSH KUMAR

O R D E R

% 02.11.2016 Mr Satyakam has handed over a status report issued by the Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi (Post Fixation Cell) indicating the total number of students, teachers and ratio of students to teachers in aided schools in Delhi.

As per the information provided for the year 2015-16, the total number of students in aided schools was 1,60,989, whereas the total number of teachers in these schools was 4,745.

This means that the ratio of students to teachers was 33.93.

The norm prescribed is that, on an average, there must be at least one teacher to 35 students. The present figures indicate that there are 33.93 students, on an average, to one teacher which is better than the norm prescribed. Another issue which had been raised in this petition was with regard to post fixation because not only must the ratio of teachers to students be maintained, the

distribution of the teachers in various schools to ensure that ratio is maintained in respect of each school has to be seen. For this purpose, post fixation has to be done annually. Earlier, it was not being done but now, Mr Satyakam, tells us that for the years 2014 and 2015, it has already been done and is being done for the year 2016-17. He assures this Court that it will continue to be done on an annual basis so that students do not suffer.

In view of the aforesaid information and statement made by Mr Satyakam, no further directions are necessary in this writ petition. The same stands disposed of.
