% 08.12.2016 The petitioner has filed the present petition seeking to add the surname "MAAN" in the passport of the petitioner. It is contended that the passport of the petitioner has been issued in the name "ABHISHEK" and there is no surname mentioned in the passport, thus the Petitioner seeks addition of the surname in the passport. Learned counsel for the respondents has produced a copy of letter dated 14.10.2016, issued by the Assistant Passport Officer to the learned counsel informing him that the respondents have taken inputs from Consulate General of India, New York with regard to the addition of the surname in the passport and the Consulate General of India has opined that they see no reason to deny the proposed changes in the passport. Copy of the letter dated 14.10.2016 is taken on record. Learned counsel has been informed that Consulate General of India, New York would process the pending application of the WP(C) 7516/2016

petitioner in accordance with provisions of the Passport Act, 1967 and the Rules framed thereunder.

In view of the above, the writ petition is disposed of directing the respondents to process the pending application of the petitioner in accordance with law.
