This writ petition has been filed in public interest complaining that the respondents did not undertake a caste based census of the population of India after 1931 till 2011. This writ petition, inter alia, seeks a direction that caste based data collected through the Socio Economic and Caste Census, 2011 be destroyed with immediate effect.
It cannot be denied that the issue is imperative and deserves urgent attention of the respondents. The respondents are required to take a view in this matter. 2.
We, therefore, dispose of this writ petition with a direction to the respondents to treat this writ petition as a representation and to take a considered view thereon within eight weeks from today. The decision which is taken shall be forthwith communicated to the petitioner as well as learned counsel representing the petitioner W.P.(C) 5145/2017
before this court.

This writ petition is allowed in the above terms. Dasti to parties.
