This public interest litigation has been initiated by the Court on its own motion especially looking to the fact that in Mahila Courts, the female public prosecutors should be appointed if they are available. It appears from the data available with this Court that there are approximately 25 Mahila Courts in Delhi and 33 female Public Prosecutors are available.

Looking to the facts and circumstances of the case, we hereby direct the respondents to appoint as far as possible, female Public Prosecutors in Mahila Courts, if they are available. All steps will be taken by the respondents that whenever they are recruiting Public Prosecutors/Assistant WP(C) No.8797/2018 Page 1 of 2
Public Prosecutors, female candidates may also be given appointment so that female Public Prosecutors can be appointed in Mahila Courts. Recruitment policy should be evolved in such a manner that female Public Prosecutors may also be given appointment to serve in Mahila Courts.

With these observations, this writ petition is hereby disposed of.
