% 16.08.2017 Matter taken up today as 14.8.2017 was declared a holiday on account of Janamashtami..

It is stated that the directions have been given by the Supreme Court that the elections to the Bar Council of Delhi should be held on or before 31.8.2017. Both the prayers made in the petition are directed against the State Bar Council i.e. respondent no.2. Contention of the petitioner that the persons who are entitled to contest the said Bar Council election must be as per the Guidelines laid down by the Delhi Bar Council and the strict rules contained therein have to be abided by. The contesting candidates should also not indulge in any sort of corrupt practice by giving any costly gifts in any forms and manner. These are the prayers made in the present

petition.

As noted supra, these prayers are directed against respondent no.2.

On advance notice learned counsel for respondents have put in appearance. Respondent no.2 points out that the directions given by the Supreme Court to hold elections of the State Bar Council on or before 31.8.2017, may get postponed for the reason that an application has been filed by the respondent no.2 before the Apex Court seeking postponement of the said election. Be that as it may, learned counsel appearing for respondent no.2 points out that the Guidelines/Rules of the Bar Council of Delhi are in place since the year 1968 and the same shall be followed in true letter and spirit. This statement of respondent no.2 is taken on record. A copy of these Rules has also been handed over to the learned counsel for petitioner.

No further orders which are called for in this petition. Petition disposed of in the above terms.
