% 03.02.2017 The petitioner had filed the present petition seeking a direction to the respondent to issue the passport of the petitioner either with the name of the step father in column of father's name or by leaving the said column blank.

Learned counsel appearing for respondent-Regional Passport Office submits that the New Passport Rules have been issued on 26.12.2016 whereby the passport can be issued by mentioning only the name of a single parent.

It is submitted that the application of the petitioner would be processed only for mentioning the name of the mother and leaving the column of the father's name blank. The passport would be issued subject to petitioner complying with the other requirements inter-alia W.P.(C) 10716/2016

of police verification.

In view of the submissions of learned counsel for the respondent, the writ petition is disposed of directing the respondents to the process of application of the petitioner for issuance of passport by mentioning only the name of the mother in the passport, subject to the petitioner complying with the other requirements.
