The petitioner has filed the present petition, inter alia, praying as under:- "(i) Issue a writ of mandamus or any other appropriate writ, order or direction directing the Respondents to favourably dispose of the application of the petitioner and grant the Indian Citizenship to him under section 6(1) of the Citizenship Act."

The petitioner is a national of Afghanistan who claims to have been residing in India since the last 14 years. In July, 2015, the petitioner had

filed an application on the Govt. of India's online portal, seeking to be accepted as a citizen of this country under Section 6(1) of the Citizenship Act, 1955. The petitioner's application was acknowledged on 07.07.2015 and the petitioner was instructed to submit a hard copy of the application to the concerned DC/DM.

It is the petitioner's case that he approached the concerned DM to submit the application but the concerned DM has refused to accept the same. The petitioner once again approached the respondents and in January, 2017, he was once again instructed to submit a copy of the application and requisite documents to the concerned DC/DM. The petitioner states that in compliance with the said instruction he has submitted its application on 24.01.2017, along with the necessary documents to the Executive Magistrate, Dhanbad.

In the circumstances, the respondents are directed to take a decision on the petitioner's application for acquiring citizenship of this country. In the event, the concerned authority decides not to accede the petitioner's request, the same shall be communicated to the petitioner. The respondents shall complete the entire exercise within a period of three months from today.

The petition is disposed of.
