The petitioner has filed the present petition, inter alia, praying as under:

"a) Issue a writ mandamus seeking directions to the respondents to improve safety and police patrolling in the Green Park Extension colony; b) Issue a writ of mandamus directing the Respondents to install street lights in and around Green Park Crematorium and In-colony parks;

c) Issue a writ of Mandamus directing the Respondents to make adequate security

arrangements for the vast amounts of empty area around Green Park crematorium;"

The petitioner alleges that the Police Authorities have been lax in providing safety to the residents of the colony (Green Park Extension). It is further stated that some of the streets are dark and proper street lights have not been installed. The petitioner also alleges that certain persons have now started encroaching upon open land behind the crematorium located in the aforesaid area (Green Park Extension).

The learned counsel appearing for South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) states that in so far as street lights are concerned, the petitioner may make a representation pointing out a specific area and the SDMC shall examine the feasibility of installing street lights, if it is found that the illumination is inadequate. Insofar as encroachment is concerned, learned counsel for SDMC states that SDMC shall inspect the area and take the necessary steps to remove encroachment, if any. 4.

In view of the above statement, the petitioner is at liberty to approach the concerned Executive Engineer, SDMC pointing out specific areas where the lighting is inadequate.

SDMC shall also examine the complaint of encroachment and take the necessary steps in accordance with law. 5.
