W.P.(CRL) 2186/2015 The petitioner claims himself to be an informer of Excise Department. He is aggrieved by the fact that despite having furnished information to the respondents regarding evasion of Income Tax, Sales Tax and Excise duties by certain Firms, no action was taken. Because of the inaction on the part of the respondent authorities in not acting upon such information provided by the petitioner, the petitioner has not been paid his rightful dues by way of reward.

It has been submitted that whenever such information is acted upon and there is recovery, an amount upto 20-25% of the recovered amount is

given by way of reward to the informer.

It is not mandatory for the authorities to act on all the information provided by the informers. Such information is not a classified information. Without further enquiry, no preventive or coercive action could be taken by the respondents.

In that view of the matter, the prayer made by the petitioner viz., to direct recording of his statement by the respondent authority is uncalled for. The prayer made by the petitioner is misconceived. The petition is dismissed.
