Issue notice. The learned counsel for the respondent accepts the notice.

The petitioner has filed the present petition, inter alia, praying as under:

"(i) Issue a writ of mandamus or any other appropriate writ, order or direction directing the Respondent for a speedy and favourable disposal of his application for renewal of his Indian passport dated 12-03-2017.

(ii) Issue a writ of mandamus or any other appropriate writ, order or direction thereby directing the

Respondent to renew the passport of the Petitioner on his earlier name mentioned on the previous passport i.e 'Afroz alias Kamal'."

The petitioner states that he was issued a passport bearing no. G2199773 on 22.06.2007. The said passport was valid for a period of ten years and expired on 19.06.2017. Prior to the said date, on 12.03.2017, the petitioner filed an application for renewal of his passport (file no. BL1070854893417). The petitioner further states that he appeared before the passport authorities on 22.03.2017 for verification of the original documents. The petitioner's grievance is that the petitioner has not received any communication from the respondents thereafter. The petitioner states that he made enquiries in May, 2017 regarding delay in processing his application and thereafter, on 09.06.2017, he made a formal representation seeking expeditious and favourable disposal of his application. 6.

The petitioner has averred in this petition that he is suffering immensely due to the delay as he is unable to pursue the treatment of his child.

In the circumstances, respondents are directed to process the petitioner's application for his passport as expeditiously as possible and in any event within a period of four weeks from today. In the event respondents decide to reject the petitioner's application, they shall communicate the reasons for doing so within the aforesaid period. If the petitioner is still aggrieved, he is at liberty to apply.

The present petition is disposed of with the aforesaid directions. 9.
