This petition by way of Public Interest Litigation has been filed with the following prayer:

"(a) Issue an appropriate writ in the nature of mandamus or any other appropriate writ, direction or order seeking writ of mandamus directing the Respondents to form a committee of historians and other like intellectuals along with government officials who would collect and collate all data concerning the Freedom Fighters and Martyrs who participated in the Freedom Struggle between 1857-1947, identify them and their role and then compile a comprehensive list of Indian Freedom Fighters and Martrys.

(b) Direct that the list shall be published and widely circulated all over the country."

Having heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and Shri Vivekanand Mishra, the learned counsel who accepted notice for the respondents, we consider it appropriate to direct the respondent No.1 / Union of India, Ministry of Home Affairs to look into the issues raised by

the petitioner by treating this petition as a representation and take an appropriate decision in accordance with law.
