This petition is filed for a writ of Mandamus declaring the action of the respondent in not venturing to correct a typographical mistake (wrong entry) occurred in petitioner's passport bearing No. R 1616208 regarding petitioner's place of birth as 'SEVASI' instead of 'VASAD', by considering petitioner's online application dated 17.09.2017, as illegal and arbitrary.
Heard learned counsel for the petitioner.
Smt.Anjali Agarwal, learned Standing Counsel for the Central Government basing on the written instructions submits that when petitioner, earlier, applied for correction of spouse name, she had declared her place of birth as 'Vasad' in the personal particular form; and that if petitioner approaches the respondent's office with birth certificate issued by the competent authority, this office has no objection to correct her place of birth.
In view of the same, the petitioner can approach the authorities with necessary application and submit necessary documents for correction of place of birth in the passport and on such submission of necessary documents, the respondent authority shall take action, in accordance with Rules.
Accordingly, the writ petition is disposed of. No order as to costs.
