The grievance of the petitioner in this case was that the police authorities were repeatedly paying domiciliary visits to his house and insisting upon his appearance before the authorities for confessing to jewel thefts.

The Sub-Inspector of Police, Anandapuram Police Station, Visakhapatnam District, filed a counter-affidavit stating that upon the complaint made by one Bali Satyamma relating to the snatching of her gold chain, Crime No.4 of 2011 was registered under Section 382 I.P.C. on the file of Anandapuram Police Station, Visakhapatnam. During investigation, it came to light that similar offences had occurred within the limits of Kothavalasa Police Station, Vizianagaram District, and also in Visakhapatnam City. Crime No.71 of 2010 was stated to have been registered under Section 382 I.P.C. on the file of Kothavalasa Police Station, Vizianagaram District, and in connection therewith the petitioner was arrested and sent to judicial custody. As

the petitioner's involvement was suspected in Crime No.4 of 2011 also, efforts were made to examine him. Except for this, the police never harassed the petitioner or interfered with his activities. The SubInspector further stated that Crime Nos.71 of 2010 and 4 of 2011 were referred. In the light of the afore-stated counter-affidavit, it is clear that the petitioner's grievance that he has been harassed by the police authorities without reason is shown to be without basis. As his involvement in criminal activity was suspected, the police authorities were bound to summon and examine him in connection therewith. Needless to state, the police are required to abide by the due procedure in the course of such exercise.

Making this position clear, the writ petition is dismissed. Pending miscellaneous petitions, if any, shall also stand dismissed. No order as to costs.
